March 9, 2018 Utah

Day 1: Friday March 9, 2018:

We started our trip today after a fairly chaotic prior day.  I had a board meeting yesterday morning then my dad came to pick up Hooper (sooooo nice) then dropped my car off at Toyota then took a Lyft over to the rental car place to pick up a white Kia Sedona minivan.  Nick was rear-ended the week before so he had to drop his rental off in Lewisville and take an Uber back to the house then get Grant to practice and home in time for me to run to FedEx (back by the airport) to pick up my Aggie Ring…whew.

Anyway, we kept the kids out of school today but ran by there this morning because Grant thought he’d left his Kindle in his cubby but it wasn’t there.  We got on the road around 7:30 am and drove until stopping for gas in Vernon, just NW of Wichita Falls.  Then we stopped in Memphis (Texas) for lunch at the Rock Inn Café.

Next stop was for gas somewhere west of Santa Rosa, NM and east of Clines Corner, NM.  Onward then to Albuquerque.  We check into the Hampton Inn at 4412 The 25 Way around 5pm (6pm Dallas time) and it’s very nice.  It’s an eccentric room with a desk down the middle and a couch on one side and bed on the other.

Nick and I walked on treadmills in the gym then we walked to Genghis Grill – the kids hadn’t been there before and we hadn’t eaten there in probably 10 years.  It was good enough.  Now, with 641 miles in the books, we’re relaxing in the room and planning tomorrow’s journey which involves a few more states!

I’m SO happy to be here right now.  I probably don’t state this enough but I love, love, love, love, love these trips.  They are the most meaningful part of my "hobby life."  No knock down drag out fights today.  I’ve bribed the kids with candy every night if they behave and they were right to point out that only Nick and I argued today. I was pointing out that he’s a crappy co-pilot and he wasn’t having it. Ah, marriage and road trips.  We went to the indoor pool for a bit and are now heading to bed.
