Florida National Parks Day 1 - August 19, 2015

We left our brand new house, which we moved into less than a week ago, and got a ride to the airport using Lift, a competitor of Uber.  It was awesome.  We got dropped right off at the gate and it didn’t cost much at all.  We took a flight to Miami (by the way, the plane was brand new and there were screens on the back of everyone’s seats where you could watch movies or track yourself in the air – very cool).  The kids watched The Goonies and were very good.

We arrived in Miami and had about a two hour layover – the kids’ first layover.  So we ate Einstein Brothers in the airport then went to wait for our flight to Key West.  We looked for new school backpacks online for a bit and overall, the wait wasn’t too bad.

Our flight to Key West was very short and sweet and also the first time the kids had flown on a small plane.  We landed around 5:30 Key West time, waited longer for our bags than we do at DFW despite the TINY airport, got our black Chevy Malibu and headed for our rental home on Cudjoe Key, about 30 minutes away.  (We bought this rental through the kids’ school’s gala – it’s owned by the Becker family).  Right outside of the airport, as we were waiting at a red light, a rooster crossed the road and came right up to our window but I couldn’t get my camera ready in time to take a picture.

After arriving at the home and getting the water turned on, etc. we just drove down the street to the Square Grouper for dinner.  The food was just so-so.  We went a few keys East (North) to Winn Dixie and picked up a few things for breakfast then it was off to bed.   Oh, by the way, it’s only about 90 degrees here which sounds pleasant but the humidity is at least 325%!  It’s DREADFUL!!
