This morning we got up and, ate breakfast then grabbed our
bathing suits and just got in the car, not at all sure what we were going to
do. We drove east and stopped at Bahia
Hondo State Park where we rented two two-man kayaks for an hour and had a good
time kayaking through a flock of pelicans and seagulls. Ryan rode with me and helped paddle a
lot. Grant rode with Nick and
lounged.
After checking our kayaks back
in, the kids and Nick got ice cream in the park and we sat on barstools and
watched a snorkeling trip take off.
Every language you can think of was being spoken all around us – a very
international scene.
It was lunch time so we drove further east towards Marathon
and stopped at the Sunset Grille, a place that had been recommended to us. We were all already in our bathing suits and
were gritty, sandy and dirty and this restaurant had a pool – a nice pool. So we sat poolside and the kids swam. Plus the food wasn’t too bad. The kids each got “lemon chills” in blue
dolphin cups and were in heaven.
We stayed there quite a while then stopped at the Publix in
Marathon to get some more groceries.
When we got home, we pulled out the chairs for the screened
in patio, turned on some island music and got the kayak out of the garage. Nick and Ryan took it out from the beach in
our backyard and it was very nice.
Shortly thereafter, the Brekkens arrived! They are the family who bought the trip with us and they have two boys who go to Greenhill and leapfrog our kids in ages. Drew’s going into 5th grade and Cade into 3rd.
